Pencils are sharpened and new shoes are bought. As fall approaches, back-to-school preparations are in high gear, so why not take this time to refresh your business too! Your supply list may be a bit more advanced, but our “back-to-school” pointers will help you have a holiday season for the record books.

1. Study Art. The art of displays, that is. Next time you're in Dallas, take time to snap pictures of our industry-leading displays in the front windows and pop-up displays throughout the marketplace. Also, look to exhibitors to see how they display the lines you are buying - think about how you can execute the look in your store.
2. Mix Up Your Curriculum. Take the time to work around your appointments to see new lines and explore an area of our campus that you haven’t before. Attend a new buyer orientation tour even if you’ve been coming here for decades – a lot has changed over the years. And finally, ask showroom staff what their recommendations are for your store – you might just find your next selling sensation.
3. Ask Questions. Trend seminars and Rawlins Gilliland’s discovery walking tours are invaluable; as well as networking opportunities during events hosted by the Market Center. Download the Dallas Market Mobile App, available in the App Store for both iPhone and iPad and the Android Market, for a schedule of educational resources such as special events and seminars.

4. Make New Friends. Want to know what your customers think about the latest trends? Post lines and products that you are considering buying on Facebook and monitor customer reactions. Product photos can also be posted on Pinterest back home to alert customers on what trends will be coming soon.

Tell us what you’ve learned during your buying trip by tweeting us @dallasmarket and using the hashtag #marketrefresh. We’d love to share with other buyers to help in their success. Now, get out there and ask questions – you’re bound to learn something new in Dallas!

Have a great Market!
