Being at the Round Top Antique Show last month, surrounded by the beautiful landscape of wildflowers and open fields made me feel like spring had officially sprung. Since it was my first time to Round Top I had a whole list of places to see, but the one at the top of my list was The Prairie. The little gem of a property is set on 46 acres of wide open space with 5 unique cottages that have their own personalities. The mastermind behind The Prairie’s aesthetic and ambiance is none other than the Queen of Shabby Chic, Rachel Ashwell.

I ventured down the long dirt road of The Prairie and happened to serendipitously arrive when Rachel herself was giving a personal tour of the grounds. I caught the tail end of the tour, where she was showing off the newest building (still under construction) where they plan to host private events, dinner parties and weddings in the future.

While exploring the serene Prairie cottages, I walked into the Ranger Lounge, which is a corrugated metal barn-like house where guests can congregate and eat together.
An image that brought me a lot of inspiration, especially through its color palette, was a mood board that Rachel had created and pinned up on one of the walls. It provided an über-feminine, pastel color palette of soft blues, grey, minty turquoise-tinged accents, hints of mustard yellow, shades of coral, and antiqued peach, plus all shades of white – dingy, tea-stained and crisp.

Surrounded by all of this shabby chic inspiration got me thinking about how we could bring a piece of Round Top and The Prairie experience to our own events (at the market center or in your store!). Spring provides us countless reasons to throw parties and celebrate the season including Mother’s Day. Check back next week for another Know It All post from me! I’ll share 6 tips to throw a spring shabby chic soiree!
